He arrived in the area in the early 1960’s to appraise deposits of ore and was instrumental in convincing the mining companies that it was worth mining here. He also played a major role in lobbying the State & Federal Governments to allow mining to proceed and for the ore to be exported. In September 1962 at the age of 71. Thomas Moore returned to America. He died from a heart attack whilst at his desk, only two hours after being advised of the very rich ore deposit discovered on the mountain here. In recognition of Thomas Moore Price and his efforts during the foundation of the industry, the mountain and our town, Tom Price was named after him. From Perth to Wave Rock, Kalgoorlie, Stirling Ranges, Albany, Denmark, Margaret River, journey via the Stirling and Porongurup Ranges, and along the spectacular southern and western coastlines through vast seas of wildflowers and magnificent National Parks Consider an optional boat trip to Rottnest Island, a gazetted A-class nature reserve, or closer to home. The Stirling Range National Park is home to more than 1,500 species of native plants, 87 of which aren’t found anywhere else in the world. With unique and abundant wildflowers, including Banksia, Dryandras, Queen Sheba Orchids and Mountain Bells, plus the beauty of the mountain landscape, this park is one of the South West’s most popular destinations. The pathways in Porongurup National Park lead through Marri, Jarrah and Karri forest to reach the summits of weathered granite domes. From here there are panoramic views of the coastline, the nearby Stirling Range, surrounding farmland and vineyards. Amongst the granite and the scenic views you’ll discover a diversity of native flora and fauna; from the yellow Acacias and purple Hovea, to wallabies, antechinus, southern brown bandicoots and grey kangaroos. The powerful Southern Ocean has sculptured spectacular coastal features known as ‘The Gap’ and the ‘Natural Bridge’ along Torndirrup National Park’s buffeted coastline. Complemented by a display of wildflowers, including the Sticky Tailflower, the pink Pimilea Rosea and blue Scaevola Nitida. Margaret River William Bay National Park is renowned for its windswept granite rocks, which have a striking primeval appearance. Enjoy one of Western Australia’s most iconic beaches at Greens Pool. Clear emerald waters, pure white sand and granite rocks shelter the bay, making it a top spot for swimming, snorkelling and diving in The Southern Ocean. We visit Western Australia’ s famous Valley of the Giants. This magnificent sight is best from the Tree Top Walk, which soars gently upwards, 40 metres into the tingle foliage and extends for 600 metres. Programme Day 1 Perth – Wave Rock Travel through the Golden Outback viewing and stopping for wildflowers on our journey to Boddington, the site of Australia’s largest gold mine. Continue to Wave Rock, a unique and ancient rock formation. Hotel: Wave Rock Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Day 2 - Wave Rock – Kalgoorlie Travel via Coolgardie a former gold boomtown and on to Kalgoorlie for amazing views over the famous Super Pit open-cut gold mine, and a tour of this famous town. With unique and abundant wildflowers, including Banksia, Dryandras, Queen Sheba Orchids and Mountain Bells, plus the beauty of the mountain landscape, this park is one of the South West’s most popular destinations.
