Day 1 - Depart Sydney heading west via Bells Line of Road and Mt Tomah for spectacular Grose Valley views. Pass the historic Zig Zag railway near Lithgow en route to Mudgee for wine tasting and vineyard lunch. Continue to the historic gold rush town of Gulgong - once featured on the $10 note - to explore its preserved buildings and regional history. Travel via Coolah, one of several towns claiming to be home of the legendary Black Stump, or alternatively through Dunedoo, known for its poetry and unique name. Arrive Coonabarabran to view (time permitting) the Diprotodon & Mega Fauna fossil display from the nearby Tambar Springs.  Overnight stay.Coonabarabran

Day 2 - Morning short walk to view the Breadknife at the Blue Gum Lookout in the spectacular Warrumbungle National Park. We then head to Siding Springs Observatory, Australia's premier optical telescope facility and enter the telescope dome for a close up view of leading edge astronomy. Travel via the Warrumbungles, then on to  the Macquarie Marshes, a UNESCO World Heritage wetland site to see a range of local and migratory wetland birds including Egrets, Spoonbill, Magpie Geese, Herons, Purple samp hens Jacana and many more. Continue via silo art in Coonamble


 Brewarrina on the Barwon River to visit the 40,000-year-old Aboriginal Fish Traps. to Lightning Ridge, famous for its black opals. Tour the underground opal mines and unique "camps" including the Astronomers Monument, Amigo's Castle, and Bottle House. Visit the Walk-In Mine for insights into opal mining history, and explore the remarkable Chambers of the Black Hand - an underground art gallery 11.2m below the surface. Take a self-guided car door tour to discover local attractions. Optional afternoon soak in the artesian bore baths. Overnight Lightning Ridge.Proceed to Bourke for overnight stay.

Day 5 - Explore revitalized Bourke, starting with a Darling River cruise aboard the Jandra paddleboat. Visit the impressive 'Back O'Bourke' centre showcasing regional history. Optional visits to historic Morrall's bakery, town Heritage Trail, and Fred Hollows' grave. Second night in Bourke.

Day 6 - Depart north following the Warrego River to Cunnamulla, home of the famous 'Cunnamulla Fella'. Continue via Eulo and Yowah, known for unique Boulder opals, to Lake Bindegolly National Park. Travel through Thargomindah to reach Eromanga Natural History Museum. Tour the museum to see "Cooper" and "Zac" - remains of Australia's largest dinosaurs. Overnight Eromanga.

Day 7 - Travel to the historic Burke & Wills Dig Tree via Nappa Merrie Station, crossing the QLD/SA border. Continue to Innamincka beside Cooper Creek, visiting Burke's Grave site en route. Evening birdwatching at Cooper Creek, followed by dinner at the Innamincka Hotel. Overnight Innamincka.

Day 8 - Morning exploration of Innamincka's creek side birdlife before heading down the Strzelecki Track through Moomba oil & gas fields. Cross Strzelecki Creek and desert via Merty Merty station, Yellow Bus, and Bollards Lagoon to Cameron Corner. Enter Sturt National Park through the dingo fence, stopping at Fort Grey lake. Overnight Tibooburra at Family Hotel or Granites Motel.

Day 9 - Explore Tibooburra's Outdoor Pastoral Museum and surrounding granite tors. Travel to Milparinka Heritage Precinct. Visit Poole's Grave and Depot Glen. Continue via Packsaddle to Broken Hill for overnight stay.

Day 10 - Full day exploring Broken Hill highlights: Pro Hart Gallery, Line of Lode Lookout, mine tour, Miners Memorial, and Desert Sculptures. Evening dinner at Mario's Palace Hotel. Second night in Broken Hill.

Day 11 - Travel to Mungo National Park, a World Heritage site featuring the famous "Walls of China" lunette formation. Take a guided tour with Aboriginal rangers to understand the park's archaeological significance. Watch sunset over the dramatic lunette formations. Overnight at Mungo Lodge.

Day 12 - Morning wildlife viewing at Mungo, then depart for Menindee Lakes in Kinchega National Park. Travel via Ivanhoe on the Cobb Highway/Kidman Way to historic Hillston. Continue through Murray Darling Basin farming country via Condobolin, Bogan Gate, and Manildra. Visit Parkes' "The Dish" radiotelescope and the King's Castle Elvis museum. Travel via Orange and Bathurst, through Lithgow to Blue Mountains. Final stop at Govetts Leap before returning to Sydney.
